MP Brown is excited to announce the confirmation of Dale Hawerchuck, Mark Scheifele, Aaron Ekblad and Howie Campbell for Hockey Night in Barrie IV on August 11th 2011. "I am elated to have the participation of Dale Hawerchuck who is one of finest players of all time. This is very exciting for Hockey Night in Barrie 4" said MP Brown.
Barrie Colts owner Howie Campbell has announced a $5000 donation towards the game on behalf of the team. "The Barrie Colts have been active supporters of RVH and Hockey Night in Barrie since its inception in 2008. We are happy to be part of the 2011 edition”, said Howie. MP Brown also quoted: "The generous donation of 5000 towards RVH from Howie Campbell and Barrie Colts is an indication of how tremendously dedicated to the community this Barrie Colts organization is."
NHL hall of famer Dale Hawerchuck played in the NHL for 16 seasons. He won the NHL's Calder Memorial Trophy as the league's Rookie of the Year in 1982 and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in his second year of eligibility in 2001. He is currently the head coach of the Barrie Colts. "One of the wonderful things about Barrie is the fact this City loves and appreciates hockey year round. I look forward to participating in my first Hockey Night in Barrie charity game on August 11th”, said Hawerchuck.
Former Barrie Colts forward and Winnipeg Jets first round pick Mark Sheifele is also slated for the game. "Hockey Night in Barrie supports a fantastic cause in building our regional cancer care centre. I look forward to lacing up my skates for this special summer time event" said Sheifele.
Joining the ranks of the “Barrie Colts line” will be current Barrie Colt and future NHL star Aaron Ekblad. Ekblad went to the Barrie Colts as the first overall OHL draft pick last May. "I am excited to play for the Barrie Colts and give back to the community through wonderful charity events like MP Brown's Hockey Night in Barrie 4. I understand Barrie is a community that loves hockey and a jam packed arena in the middle of summer is a great indication of that passion for hockey” said Ekblad.
Singing the National Anthem will be Canadian singer/actor Michael Burgess. Burgess is well known for his performances in the Toronto production of Les Miserables. He is perhaps better known by hockey fans for his frequent vocal performances of Canada’s
national anthem at Toronto Maple Leafs home games. Burgess will also be lacing up his skates to play in the game.
