Former NHL Stars Darrin and Darryl Shannon added to Hockey Night in Barrie Roster (MP Brown names 4 community players as well)

 

MP Patrick Brown is excited to announce that the Shannon brothers Darrin and Daryl have confirmed their attendance for this year’s Hockey Night in Barrie at the Barrie Molson Centre on August 11, 2011. Barrie’s largest fundraiser in support of the Royal Victoria Hospital’s Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre.

Darrin Shannon played for the Buffalo Sabres and the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes scoring 87 goals and 163 assists for 250 points in 506 overall career NHL games.

His older brother Darryl was drafted 36th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft and as well as the Leafs, he played for the Winnipeg JetsBuffalo Sabres, Atlanta ThrashersCalgary Flames, and the Montreal Canadiens. He played a total of 544 regular seasons in the National Hockey League, scoring 28 goals and 111 assists for 139 points and collecting 523 penalty minutes.

 

“It is truly fantastic that these two great NHL Alumni are joining us this year” said MP Brown.

MP Brown has also announced the return of 4 community players; Base Borden Commander Louis Meloche, City of Barrie Councillor Alex Nuttall, cancer survivor Brendan Burscough, and VP of Laurentian University Chris Mercer. “We are happy to have the continued participation from these dedicated community players who have collectively raised an impressive $20 000 in support of this year’s game.”
