Barrie-MP Patrick Brown is pleased to announce that Hockey Night in Barrie V will be taking place on August 16th 2012 at the Barrie Molson Centre. All proceeds raised will be directly benefitting the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Care Centre. Funds raised in past events have totalled over $600,000!
“I am very excited to announce the start of Hockey Night in Barrie ticket sales. We are set to make Hockey Night in Barrie V the biggest charity hockey game yet," said MP Brown.
Returning to this year’s event will be Hockey Hall of Famer’s Dale Hawerchuk of the Winnipeg Jets and Mike Gartner, former member of the New York Rangers. Former New Jersey Devil Troy Crowder and Wes Jarvis, past member of the Washington Capitals have also confirmed for this year’s charity game. The Shannon brothers Darrin and Darryl will be patrolling the ice as former members of the Leafs, Sabres, and Jets. Bolstering down the line up will be NHL greats and former Toronto Maple Leafs such as Gary Leeman, Shayne Corson, and Darcy Tucker.
"It is amazing to see so many NHL stars confirm their attendance well in advance and I am happy to welcome new participants Alan Thicke and current NHL sparkplug Raffi Torres,” commented MP Brown.
New additions to this year’s game include Canadian Actor and celebrity, Alan Thicke as well as the Phoenix Coyotes energetic forward, Raffi Torres. Alan Thicke has starred in TV roles such as Growing Pains and on the big screen in movies like The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard. Torres is known for his speed and physical play with the Coyotes and will add to the skill level of this year’s game. Daniel Tkachuk, former Captain of the Barrie Colts and member of Canada’s World Junior Team will also be joining the Hockey Night in Barrie family.
Joining us again this year will be Barrie Native and NHL up and comer, Matt Beleskey, member of the Anaheim Ducks. Showcasing his skills in net will once again be Mike Hutchinson, goalie for the Boston Bruins. Mike is also a Barrie native.
Behind the bench for HNIB V as Head Coach will be “Iron” Mike Keenan who led the New York Rangers to a Stanley Cup victory. Joining Keenan on the bench will be Barrie City Councillor Jennifer Robinson, 6-time World Champion figure skater and member of our Canadian Olympic team. Added to the coaching staff will be Sports Minister Bal Gosal, returning for another year of Hockey Night in Barrie.
Keeping the ice safe and sound will once again be Defence Minister, Peter McKay. Long time NHL Referee Ron Hoggarth will making the calls for Hockey Night in Barrie for his fourth straight year. Again this year we look forward to the entertainment provided by 4-time World Champion and 4-time Canadian Champion Figure Skater, Kurt Browning.
“It is great to have Kurt Browning returning for HNIB V. Kurt was hilarious during his 2010 appearance," added MP Patrick Brown.
Rounding out the list of confirmed players is recent recipient of the Ontario Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year Award Aaron Ekblad of the Barrie Colts. As the OHL’s 1st overall draft pick in 2011, Aaron is proving to be one of the elite players in the OHL.
Brian Broley from the Barrie Ball Hockey Club has announced a donation of $20,000 for this year’s charity event. In addition to his donation, the Barrie Ball Hockey Club will be running a 3 on 3 tournament in support of Hockey Night in Barrie V. Please see attached flyer.
