-NHL ALL Star, Team Canada member Matt Duchene and home town favourite NHLer Bryan Little headline new additions -
Patrick Brown is happy to announce the addition of Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene, LA Kings forward Richard Clune, St Louis Blues forward Stefan Della Rovere, Winnipeg Jets forward Bryan Little, Boston Bruins Goalie Mike Hutchinson, former Maple Leaf Bill Derlago, former Washington Capital Wes Jarvis, and to this year’s Hockey Night in Barrie game on August 11th. “To have these 5 NHL players, three of which are former Barrie Colts, participate in this year’s game is truly awesome. Having a player like Matt Duchene, who is the leading Avalanche goal scorer and an NHL All-Star, is outstanding.”
"Bryan Little has been a scoring machine for the Atlanta Thrashers and I suspect he will be a franchise type player for the newly minted Winnipeg Jets. He has always been a fan favourite in our region. It is great to have him back”, said MP Brown.
“One of the things I love about Hockey Night in Barrie is that it is a great opportunity to give back to a community that has supported me so much throughout my hockey career, it is an honour to play in support of RVH”, said Hutchinson (former Barrie colt and current Boston Bruins goalie).
Also participating in the game will be Minister of Sport Bal Gosal, Minister of National Defence Peter MacKay, and Minister of Democratic Reform Tim Uppal. Minister Gosil will be leading the puck drop ceremony, with Minister Uppal on the bench as an assistant coach, and Peter MacKay playing on the ice. “The amount of support from not one but three Federal Cabinet Ministers is a true testament to the reputation that RVH and Barrie hold at the national level. I am very excited to show these Cabinet Ministers how much of a hockey town Barrie really is” said MP Brown.
Barrie Advance’s Shaun Sauve, Justin Heran from the Shriners Club, and Joe
Johnson from Joe Johnson Equipment have also been added to the line up as community players. In honour of the game, Joe Johnson and Justin Heran have announced donations of $5000 and $10 000 respectively towards this year’s game. “The amount of community support that this game draws is truly admirable. I look forward to having these community players on the ice” said MP Brown.
